Epoxy & Polyurethane specialist applicators

www.resinfloordesign.co.za
Resin Floor Design was established in 2009 primarily to assist architects, project managers and flooring chemical manufacturers in the correct specification of protective finishes for concrete floors. This service expanded to include corrosion protection systems. The company however did not have any in-house application teams and thus the approved specifications were installed by various different contracting companies.

2011 Resin Floor Design was acquired from the founding member, Ms Fiona Barry by Mr Gavin Hill who has eleven years of experience in the industrial, resin based flooring industry, and has managed two previous contracting concerns.

Resin Floor Design, based in Honeydew Gauteng now has four full time contracting teams, each of which has a dedicated team leader. All staff has an extensive collective knowledge of the industry and operates as a cohesive unit, having joined Resin Floor Design as a complete business unit from a previous contracting company managed by Gavin Hill.

Company Philosophy

The philosophy behind the addition of the contracting teams to the service that Resin Floor Design offers is simply to be able to offer a full turnkey solution to existing and potential customers in terms of resin based flooring systems.

Coupled with a vast choice of products from various reputable manufacturers, we are able to find a viable solution for most industrial sectors of industry. This ranges from primarily the food and beverage industry and stretch to motor vehicle manufacture, pharmaceutical, electronics and even explosives manufacture.

Ms Fiona Barry, with her vast marketing experience and extensive exposure to industrial decision makers and ties to many product manufacturers adds an invaluable service in bridging the gap between direct contracting and the many aspects involved prior to the actual installations.

Target Markets

The advent of numerous quality control systems to the manufacturing and distribution industry, especially in the food and beverage sector has determined an on-going requirement for floor finishes that meet or exceed standards that are continuously being set.

This requirement has determined the market for Resin Floor Design, and thus our speciality field is the installation of polyurethane screed systems in various thicknesses. These systems comply with most standards in terms of HACCP compliance, and carry extensive back-to-back guarantees with the manufacturers.

Floor finishes of a different nature are also installed on a regular basis and these include epoxies, acid resistant floors, conductive floors and corrosion protection systems.

Resin Floor Design has various large national concerns that utilise our services on a regular basis. Some of these relationships have been built over many years and numerous customers have been loyal to the contracting staff that has provided the on-site service in the past.

Product Suppliers

In order to provide our customers with peace of mind in terms of flooring finishes they require that there be a good relationship between the material manufacturer and the applicator. Thus a noticeable and sound relationship between the two is essential. The strength of a guarantee is dependent on the confidence the supplier has in the applicator and due to this Resin Floor Design has “approved applicator” status with most suppliers. Technical support on site is made available by the suppliers and as such most problems arising are swiftly dealt with in order to deliver the required standards of finish timeously.

Vision

The vision of Resin Floor Design is to supply lasting flooring solutions to the industrial sector whilst realising the value factor to the client.

Resin Floor Design - Flooring - the bedrock of your business

Flooring - the bedrock of your business

Demands associated with manufacturing, processing and retailing of
baked goods literally share one common ground - flooring. Drab and
dirty floors– no matter how functional – will not suffice as the industry
must adhere to the highest standards of safety and hygiene.

By Suzette Scheepers (Edited by Fiona Barry – Red Dice Marketing)

Flooring is probably the most important aspects of any business. You have to look at it, walk on it, store and move product across it, attach plant to it, spill on it and clean it. In fact, floors are subject to attack from impact, abrasion and chemicals as from day one.
Bakery industry floors withstand significant amounts of traffic, hot and oily baking trolleys, pallet trucks and yield daily to the corrosive nature of fats, hot oils, dough, steam, sugar solutions and natural food acids. Still, the importance of a floor is often only recognised once production is threatened in terms of cracking, breaking or leaking.

Reasons to ensure safer, more hygienic floors are various, but are underlined by the ever increasing role of convenience to customers, short life food products and the advent of new standards.

Its ‘out’ with the old tiled flooring favourites in terms of SABS 049 Food hygiene management standard, and ‘in’ with seamless and impermeable alternatives such as epoxy and polyurethane resin screeds that are easy to clean and more resistant in terms of the South African National Standard (SANS) 10049 Food Safety Management standard - published in February 2011.
The standard is rather more prescriptive and fills the gap between Regulation 918 and HACCP certification in terms of SANS 10330 or SANS / ISO 22000 states the Foodstuff South Africa website (www.foodstuffsa.co.za). SANS 10049 is stand-alone, certifiable and very thorough.

“It follows a more logical structure and highlights many requirements that are extremely relevant for proving due diligence in terms of the Consumer Protection Act (that came into force in April 2011),” states Andrew Murray of Andrew Murray Consultants and member of the SABS committee that drafted SANS 10049.
So now, more than ever, surfaces in food preparation areas are under scrutiny.
Up for the challenge is a large range of flooring and hygienic wall coatings designed specifically for the food and related industries.

Today it is simply not worth ‘slipping-up’ on health and safety matters when it comes to flooring. Gauteng-based high performance flooring applicator Resin Floor Design, formerly Industrial Flooring Systems (IFS), will provide a fast, effective and permanent flooring solution. It is an approved applicator for Stoncor Africa, Flowcrete, Prostruct, Stonhard, Mapei, ABE, Sika, Plascon, BASF and Technical Finishes.
“Over the years a number of flooring installations have been carried out for Albany Bakeries at its Germiston, Randfontein and Silverton facilities,” states managing director Gavin Hill. Applications have ranged from 4 500m2 on a significant shutdown at Albany’s Germiston facility, to another 1 000m2 just recently completed at its Randfontein facility.

BASF Ucrete UD200 polyurethane screed in 6mm was predominantly selected on these application to give maximum impact resistance and non-slip properties. The single layer, seamless, solvent-free flooring system cures to harder than concrete to withstand dropping pans and even takes high pressure water cleaning in its stride.
The product is recommended for conditions requiring the maximum of chemical resistance, health and safety and where thermal situations arise, from cool rooms to hot environments.
“The trend seems to be moving away from epoxy screeds,” says Hill. He adds that even individually owned facilities are heading more toward the advent of polyurethane screeds as a result of the good guarantees and the benefit it offers when being audited. “HACCP accreditation is made a lot simpler by the application of polyurethane.”
